Galtür is a hot spot for cross country skiing, with 73km of well maintained trails for both classic and skating styles. Cross country is an excellent pursuit in it‘s own right, but also an especially good alternative to downhill skiing on the days when there is a lot of wind/cloud/snow as the trails are lower and often protected by the trees. Like the winter hiking trails, many trails have the option to ski in one direction and come back by bus.
Equipment is available from our friends at Intersport Wolfart
The Paznauan valley is covered in well groomed winter hiking trails that connect the towns of Wirl, Galtür, Ischgl, Kappl and See. Some hidden delights you might find on your wanderings include a tiny chapel in the woods, quaint cottages, picturesque streams, spectacular mountain lakes, cosy mountain huts, and wildlife such as deer, foxes or snow rabbits.
The trails are well maintained and snow shoes are not required, although we do recommend proper snow boots to keep your toes warm! Detailed information on the walking trails is provided in booklets available from reception, or the Galtür Tourist Information Office, or online here.
